Magical Moment Mondays: Potluck

Hot steaming pot of soupEvery year on the first Sunday after Valentines Day, my friends hold “Soup Day”. The wonderful idea is an excuse to bring friends and family together in the middle of a cold winter to enjoy hot soup. It is potluck so everyone pitches in and brings their favorite recipe. Each year the menu grows to include much more than soup—there are plenty of appetizers, chips and dips, salads and even paella and other main courses. Last year I also brought warm chocolate chip cookies (of course, see Ode to Baking Chocolate Chip Cookies) so that may become a regular addition from me. Potlucks are so magical. First, you get to have what you love because you brought it to the party. And second, you get to taste any number of other people’s yummy choices. What’s not to love about favorite friends and their favorite foods? And best of all you don’t have to prepare all the dishes but you get to eat all of them!

Organize a potluck with your friends and let the fun and magic begin!

Winter
by Walter De La Mare

And the robin flew
Into the air, the air,
The white mist through;
And small and rare
The night-frost fell
Into the calm and misty dell.

And the dusk gathered low,
And the silver moon and stars
On the frozen snow
Drew taper bars,
Kindled winking fires
In the hooded briers.

And the sprawling Bear
Growled deep in the sky;
And Orion’s hair
Streamed sparkling by:
But the North sighed low,
“Snow, snow, more snow!”
