Although I have mixed feelings about the change of season from the warmth of summer to the cool of fall, I do love the crisp clean air of autumn. It awakens my spirit in a way that no other weather does. The brisk air is simply magical!
To take full advantage of this time of year, Andy and I are planning to do at least one fun activity outside each weekend. (I also plan to go outside each weekday to breathe in the air as an elixir from sitting too long at the computer while working.) My list of fall outdoor events is still in progress but this is what I have so far: apple picking—we just went last week but will go again, hiking, flea marketing, and outdoor fires.
This last one—outdoor fires—is new for us this year. Andy made a makeshift fire pit out of our Weber Kettle grill that was pretty good on a cool summer night. We enjoyed it so much we decided to get a fire pit designed just for the purpose of lounging outside in the cold. It turns out that the stores actually are in synch with what the public wants this time of the year and we found many different stores selling fire pits. Sitting on our patio on a chilly autumn evening taking in the clear air while keeping warm is just what the doctor ordered to soothe the soul.
How do you celebrate the autumn weather?
A touch of cold in the Autumn night—
I walked abroad,
And saw the ruddy moon lean over a hedge
Like a red-faced farmer.
I did not stop to speak, but nodded,
And round about were the wistful stars
With white faces like town children.
XOXO Rachel
